MEDI-SHARE HEALTH SHARING
Part of my job is to help you understand what all of your healthcare options are. In my other pages I stress health insurance options, in this page I will highlight Health-Sharing non-profit options. This year for myself I personally am trying the Medi-Share program, which I will explain below. It is important to know that a 'sharing' ministry or non-profit is not insurance. There are no contractual obligations to pay all medical bills and no need to conform to state and federal requirements. The idea is a group of like-minded people come together to pool monthly contributions (like a premium) with programs that have 'initial non-covered amounts' (like a deductible), then the non-profit uses the pooled funds to pay medical bills, according to the guidelines of that organization, which should be transparent.
For some people I recommend the Medi-Share health sharing program offered by Christian Care Ministries. You should study the program for yourself to fully understand how it works. You do need to agree with their Christian statement of faith and lifestyle guidelines to join. Zion Healthshare does not require statement of faith.
WHY DID I JOIN MEDI-SHARE PERSONALLY?
1. THE MONTHLY SHARING AMOUNT IS RELATIVELY LOW: My cost is $319 per month at age 56. I'm responsible for the first $6000 of medical expenses, then MediShare will share in my medical bills. This saves me $3100 per year in premiums, and the insurance option would have had a $92o0 in out of pocket maximum costs. I'm in good health, take no medications and have no pre-existing conditions. You can see the program makes sense for me.
2. NATIONAL PROVIDER NETWORK: MediShare works with the First Health Network, with over 1 million national providers. When you see a provider in this network you get a contracted rate of discount off of your bill. Bills are submitted directly to MediShare.
3. 24/7 Telehealth visits are included at no cost. This can be handy if I get sick and need an antibiotic.
4. RESONABLE OUT OF POCKET COSTS: My program, the AHP 6000 requires I pay the first $6000 of medical expenses, then any medical expenses beyond this are shared 100% (for sharable expenses). This works for me as the safety net I am looking for. Other programs are available.
Let me state again clearly that Medi-Share is NOT insurance, but non-for-profit ministry of like minded Christians that share each others medical bills under a program since 1993. They claim to have $400,000 members and have shared more than 7 billion of medical bills since 1993.
Why I recommend MediShare to some people and not all:
If you earn too much for a tax credit on the Marketplace, you are a Christian, and are in good health, not diabetic or have mental health issues, this may be a good fit for you for a healthcare program. Their program would not work well for many other people, and if you don't agree with the Christian creed, you can checkout Zion Healthshare
DO I REPRESENT MEDI-SHARE?
No. This web page is to just offers you a non-insurance option for health care available. There may be other good Christian Sharing ministries but I recommend MediShare for their 30 year track record. If you are not a Christian, Zion HealthShare is available to anyone of any creed.
